Rob Thomas, perhaps, should be officially saddled with the "injury-prone" label. He is currently struggling with a groin injury, the latest in a long line of maladies to befall the forward. It's too bad he can't play more minutes, because at 6'6", he makes me a believer that short guys can play power forward.
Sometimes, against skilled, well-trained opponents, he has a hard time clearing out space and putting the shots up near the hoop. But generally, he has been great at getting shot attempts from 5 feet in with an unnatural touch; he releases the ball and it wants to find the bottom of the net.
His offensive rebounding numbers in conference are tremendous; he really has a nose for the ball. And when he gets it down low, he's going to put up the shot - his shot percentage is very high.
Thomas' low minutes total allows him to play a hard-nosed role; but I wonder where the driving ability he used to have has gone. And where is that jump shot, with range out to the three-point line that he displayed last year? Then again, it is hard to compare to last year, since he spent so little time on the court.
His defense is tough and physical, but he's not tall enough to bother fellow forwards' shots. But he stays down and works for defensive position.
