There's a lot that St. John's needs to do to make this a close, competitive game on the road. The main thing is for the Red Storm to find some early and/ or transition offense. The second is to not let the other team grab more than half of their missed shots. This could be a little grisly, but we'll be here, looking for signs for improvement with less-imposing teams like the offensively bereft Seton Hall Pirates on Tuesday.

Not bad early
Good ball movement offensively.
Hoyas aer playing off the Johnnies in the half court and extending the defense in transition.

Shot clock violation #1
Dom Pointer’s not been playing aware recently.

St. John's is 1/7 from the field. 7-2 Hoyas
On the plus side – they have 3 steals! Harkless has the only FG for the Red Storm.

Beautiful interior bounce from Greene.

Then he gets caught in the air.
Ballhandling is a real issue this year. Greene and Pointer have a lot to learn.

I know Hoyas are missing some open looks
But St. John’s defensive rotation is causing problems.

moving well...
But notice how Pointer gets lost sometimes? How sometimes there are two players defending the same area?

Between TV timeouts, G'Town went scoreless. 15-11 Hoyas
0/5. 2 offensive rebounds. St. John’s defense has been a bother, rotating decently and defending the middle. Hoyas are taking jumpers.

Benches warned about complingin about fouls
Dunlap was very animated about a missed over-the-back call. Harrison and Greene have both strongly protested ref’s judgements.

Offensive rebounding...
St. John’s has 9 defensive boards, Hoyas have 7 offensive. It’s better than it was last time but still really hurting the Johnnies, who had a solid defensive effort.
Hoyas 31, St. John’s 26 at the half.

Moe Harkless is showing a lot more energy
And so is the defense. 39-36 Hoyas with 14.17 left.

#stjbb is doing a great job of anticipating Hoya passes, deflecting/ stealing them. The defensive pressure funnels Hoyas into predictable moves.

59-53
Johnnies are rebounding, Harkless is hitting, but Harrison/ Harkless are double teamed constantly and the Hoyas have more talent…

Not terrible. Fought hard, couldn’t stop the Hoyas late.

Just saw the end
I was watching the game on delay, so just saw the end. We didn’t win, but the effort and execution were much better. We’ll win most of our remaining games if we can play like this each time out. These are the types of efforts that make next year so encouraging. Another couple of guys and we can beat G’Town.
Fraschilla said similar things
I will go on at length on that topic at the end of the season. I wouldn’t be as worried as some are; assuming normal player development, this team really just needs bodies (but I think they’d really do well to have a top-75 recruit in the paint, maybe 2).
See game recap.

Good game by the Red Storm
Harkless and Harrison are really tough and gifted players who will not quit!
All the best in the future (except against the Hoyas)
