Hello from MSG!

Big game today. And there sure is a hell of a lot of orange here already.

Phil Greene out, Harrison in...

Greene didn’t get back in transition, so maybe that’s why he got yanked?

Getting the ball down low

Unlike last year’s game, we’re getting the ball down low against the zone. Making some ill advised passes once we’re in there, but we can fix that. Good offensive movement in the first 5 minutes.

true

Pointer and Garrett have to make better decisions, though, on the drive.

There's a lot of confusion defense.

Not boxing out on that follow dunk/ offensive rebound… not marking the Cuse player who drifted out to the three-point line…

And leave Melo outside

If Melo gets the ball by the three point line, we should collapse our D, not chase him. Let him shoot that if he wants it. Also, boxing out will be critical to us today.

Between media timeouts, #Cuse had 4 offensive rebounds, went 5/10 from the field. #stjbb

St. John's is working to draw fouls...

That’s a positive. Still it’s 23-14, Cuse.

Big stretch for us here

Need some tough D and to force some turnovers.

by Jnaw17 on Feb 4, 2012 12:30 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

But, I’d rather us force them to shoot jumpers then give up layups. We’ll learn a little bit today about pace and how to force transition offense.

and get some rebounds.

Cuse rebounds in between timeouts: 5. St. John’s rebounds: 0.

St. John's just lost a 50/50 ball...

But both sides were Red Storm players. Got to grab those rebounds. The ball went to Cuse.

Harrison and Harkless on the bench with 2 fouls? This five better play some hellacious defense.

halftime, 41-27 Syracuse

It got close for a moment there, but Syracuse imposed its will, Harkless and Harrison went to the bench with two fouls each, and the Red Storm couldn’t hit their shots. St. John’s has been forced into contested, distant jumpers.

That’s not working out. Johnnies shooting 30% inside the arc, 33% outside the arc (2/6). Syracuse is 2/11 from outside, but killing it in the paint.

St. John’s is getting to the line, but is shooting 9/16 from the charity stripe.

Free throws and rebounding

We’re driving the ball well and doing a good job of drawing fouls. Need to hit the FT’s as we know. Rebounds will need to be a joint effort. Our guys are not rebounding with the same intensity as Syracuse. That will need to change in the second half if we want to make a run. We may lose some because of size, but let’s not continue to be out hustled for any.

St John's...

Harkless has 7 points on 3/9 shooting, 0/2 from the three, 1/4 from the free throw line. He has 3 rebounds
Harrison is 1/3 for 6 points – has 1/3 made threes, 3/6 from the free throw line. 2 assists.

Pointer/ Harrison/ Harkless with 2 fouls.

Phil Greene’s hit two jumpers. 2/5, 1 assist, 7 rebounds. Achuwa has 2 rebounds, 4 points – one on a midrange baseline jumper. Pointer’s 0/4.

18.13...

And we’ve seen Scoop Jardine wide open for three in transition, 4 fouls on Moe Harkless, an open dunk in transition for Cuse…

48-27. Maybe it’s time to go eat lunch.
