St. John's has announced its full 2013-14 non-conference schedule, and the date for Red Storm Tip-Off.
Tip-Off will be part of an event televised on Fox Sports 1 on October 25th - other Big East schools will likely participate, we assume, and the event takes place a week after ESPN's Madness coverage.
Like previous years under Steve Lavin's helm, the Johnnies will play two exhibitions at Carnesecca Arena before the season begins - one against San Francisco State (one of Coach Lavin's former schools in his playing days) on November 2nd and the other against Humboldt State on November 5th.
The regular season will begin with a heavily awaited match-up with Wisconsin, set to be played in obscure Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday, November 8th. The game will be the Red Storm's only game played away from New York before January.
After a tough test against Bo Ryan's Badgers to kick off an important campaign for the Johnnies, the Red Storm come home for four consecutive home games at Carnesecca Arena. Local foe Wagner (Nov. 15th), regional foes Bucknell (Nov. 19th), and Monmouth (Nov. 22nd), and North Carolina's Longwood (Nov. 26th) will each invade the Queens Campus before Thanksgiving.
The day after Thanksgiving, on November 29th, St. John's will take part in the Barclays Center Classic, where they will meet Penn State on the first day and either Ole Miss or Georgia Tech on the second day. (Yes, the link to discount Barclays Classic tickets is still good.)
For the third consecutive year, the Johnnies will clash with city rival Fordham in the Johnnies' Madison Square Garden debut on December 7th - a very early date for the Holiday Festival which will be presented as a one-day doubleheader, with St. John's/ Fordham being the second game.
The marquee game of this year's non-conference slate will be on December 15th, when former Big East rival Syracuse will come to the Garden to take on St. John's. The Orange will be playing its first season as a member of the revamped ACC in 2013.
St. John's will then welcome San Francisco to Carnesecca Arena on December 18th as a rematch of the heartbreaking loss the Storm endured at the Dons' War Memorial Gym last season to end the home-and-home series. The Johnnies then host the Horizon League's Youngstown State on December 21st.
The Red Storm's second appearance in Brooklyn will take place on December 28th, when they will take on Columbia as part of a tripleheader that will also include Kansas State vs. Tulane and VCU vs. Boston College.
The Big East schedule begins on New Year's Eve, when St. John's plays a noon game against Xavier. The final non-conference game of the season will take place on January 18th when Dartmouth of the Ivy League comes to Carnesecca Arena.
