Xavier in the Garden: Pre-game and early possessions

New York City - Looking at the Four Factors, agree with an earlier assessment, turnovers will be a key. Coming in, Xavier Hassan 18 per cent TO rate. St. John's forces opposition miscues at a 20 percent norm. Something has to give.

This is Xavier's first visit to the 'world's most famous arena' since December of 2002, a loss to Mississippi State.

The first five possessions

Xavier. St. John's

1. FG. Missed FGA

2. FG. FG (offensive board work kept the possession alive)

3. FG. Missed FGA

4. Missed FGA. FG

5. Missed FGA FG

score 6-6

Offensive Efficiency: Both at 120.

Deliberate pace. Five possessions concluded at 15:30 mark. Teams normally hit five in here minutes.

Xavier ran some nice sets against the man to man defense to get inside baskets by Matt Stainbrook on the first two possessions. Xavier came out zoning with firing up perimeter shots early on. If Xavier continues to zone, a more judicious shot selection is advised for St. John's.
