The season is in the books. St. John’s went down in defeat at the hands of Robert Morris 89-78 on Tuesday. The first round NIT game at Carnesecca Arena saw the eighth seeded Colonials upset the top seeded Red Storm. Almost a year to the day, Robert Morris knocked off top seed Kentucky in the NIT’s opening round. The efficiency numbers for the Red Storm finishing at 20-13. Again, only those logging ten or more minutes are figured.

St. John’s figured the best way to attack the zone was shoot threes. NBA2K14 style. It didn’t work. The Storm shot 18 of 37 (43%) from downtown. Following a 1 of 14 (7%)from two point range the first half, St. John’s was much better the final twenty minutes finishing 13 of 41(32%) from two. Shooting threes also lent a low FT rate of 6%. The Red Storm attempted only five free throws as coach Andy Toole’s were not about to foul perimeter shooters.
Individually: Harrison was hampered by 3 of 13 shooting. He was 3 of 6 from three and zero for seven from two. Sanchez shot 4 of 7 with a team high 8 rebounds. Branch was a solid 8 of 14 from the field with only one turnover. Greene IV shot 1 of 10 from the field. Sampson and Obekpa were the only players in this group not attempting a three. Sampson was 5 of 12 from the field adding 5 boards.
The offense was too three point oriented. A late run made it interesting but it was too little too late. A bright side, the TO rate was only 7.8%. An excellent mark.
