The final single game grades are here. St. John’s saw the season ended by Tennessee 67-51 at Thompson-Boling Arena in second round action.
The Red Storm trailed by 4 at the half and some missed free throws and close in shots were a big difference. Going in with a halftime lead would not guarantee a victory but put St. John’s in a much more desirable state momentum wise for the final 20 minutes.

Thompson’s 9 team leading rebounds and 3 of 6 shooting contributed to her efficiency that led the Red Storm.
Handford paced St. John’s with 23 points but a 9 of 19 shooting mark from the field hurt the efficiency. Grant shot 1 of 7 while adding the positives of 5 boards and 5 assists (one turnover).
Red Storm was guilty of 18 turnovers, a 27% TO rate. That goes a long way toward explaining the 75 offensive efficiency (Tennessee posted a 99). The taller Lady Vols only had a 36-32% edge in offensive rebounding percentage. They did dominate the lane with a 36-22 advantage on points in the paint.
Coach Joe Tartamella and the Red Storm wrap it up at 23-11. Tennessee is now 29-5 and headed to the regionals for the 31st time in program history.
