St. John's basketball: Recruiting Bits

Passing along a couple of St. John's bits from Dick "Hoops" Weiss:

- Anthony Mason Jr. was named to the first team all Met (NYC Area) team. Along with such luminaries as Rider's Jason Thompson (who is actually a great player and was awarded Met player of the year), Bryant Dunston of Fordham, Antoine Agudio of Hofstra, John Baumann of Columbia, and Brian Laing of Seton Hall. No St. John's player made the second or third team.

- In the same post, he notes that Karon Burton is likely headed to a junior college. He'd stated that St. John's was interested in him; if this is true, it's probably better for all involved, because St. John's doesn't need another diminutive point guard on the roster unless both are great defenders and playmakers.

- St. John's is in the mix to sign former Florida forward and former Mt. Vernon player Jonathan Mitchell, who hopes to transfer closer to home. In the mix means little, of course, until the recruit is signed.
