Buzzing on the message boards and now covered by Zagsblog and Hoops on Hoops is a rumor of a new hire at St. John's, or possibly two, from the AAU/ grass roots coaching level in New York City as a way to get closer to the best talent in the city.
From Zagsblog:
St. John’s has two openings on its staff and rumors are rampant that Kimani Young of New Heights and/or Oswald Cross of the New York Panthers could get hired by the end of the month by Norm Roberts.
From Hoops on Hoops:
St. John’s coach Norm Roberts may be on the verge of an enormous coup that could eventually turn the stagnant Red Storm program around and open the door for them to recruit multiple Big East-caliber players from the city.
Roberts this afternoon offered Kimani Young, who is the AD/coach at New Heights’ respected travel team, a spot on his staff. Young, who has successfully coached at the grass roots level in the city for the past 15 years, has enormous respect in the community.... Young has yet to decide.
This is good to hear. The Red Storm could use a little more in the way of inroads into the talent of New York City, and this is definitely a way to get at the talent.
