Guarded enthusiasm greeted the news that Ayodele "Dele" Coker had slimmed down to 260 pounds; Coach Norm Roberts spoke about Dele Coker's improvement to news outlets, and it sounded like the freshmen had gotten serious and grown strong, ready to battle the towering big men of the Big East.
Well, halfway through the conference season, Coker looks better and quicker, but the improvement in his offense is negligible. Mind you, he doesn't play steady minutes, but there's not much in his offense that compels a coach to leave him out there longer.
On defense, besides an increased (!) propensity to foul that is now up near 10 fouls per 40 minutes, his rebounding percentages have stayed strong. Which is funny, because rebounds still go through his hands, which need a little more improvement. His block percentages are high, and he gets called for a few fouls that look like clean blocks to me... perhaps that's why his fouling rate has skyrocketed.
He is not getting to the line often; he is shooting less, and has been a non-factor on one end of the court, but hints at being able to make an impact on the defensive side.
