Darrick Wood participated in an invite-only session at Reebok's headquarters in Boston, an extension of the 2011 Breakout Challenge (which included former commit Jevon Thomas) held back in July.
Five participants from the July sessions in Philadelphia got the chance to participate in drills, meet the Reebok staff, and play pickup ball against the Wizards' John Wall and others.
The other invitees included St. John's target Rysheed Jordan (2013 point guard), Seth Allen, Jonathan Milligan, and Daiquan Walker.
Jordan was sick, and didn't make the trip.
Slam Magazine was there. St. John's fans will love this writeup on Darrick Wood, the spindly guard commit in the 2012 class:
Wood is unassuming as a physical specimen, his spindly body still yet to fill out. But then you watch him dunk a basketball. Wood threw down a pair of tomahawks that rocked the gym during one training session, followed by an impromptu dunk contest… against himself. The DC-area native’s explosiveness is apparent on his jumpshot, too, as his rise-and-hit ability should allow him to get his shot off when he takes on the Big East at St. John’s. The NBA contingent appreciated Wood’s competitiveness—Thomas praised Wood’s ability to "back up all his talking."
Competitive, athletic, explosive. Sounds like the Red Storm got another good one.
