Chiddy with a Bang

Chiddy Bang will entertain the fans that come out to St. John's for Tip-Off Friday night.

"TELL MUMMY I'M SORRY, THIS LIFE IS A PARTY, AND I'M NEVER GROWING UP" - Chiddy Bang, "Opposite of Adults"

Excuse my personal exuberance, but I can't help but feel excitement with the college basketball season just a day away from Tip-off. When this Friday in October comes every year, it feels like a new party is starting and the fun is all about to begin.

And this year, it's going to start with a bang; a Chiddy Bang that is.

Tomorrow night, Chiddy Bang, the alternative hip-hop and electronica group, will hit center court at Carnesecca Arena to perform at the St. John's Midnight Madness celebrating the start of the new season.

The duo of Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege and Noah "Xaphoon Jones" Beresin have been a popular hit since their rise to fame in 2009 - just a year after meeting one another at Philadelphia's Drexel University.

On Wikipedia, their sound is aptly described as "based on the fusion of hip hop and alternative using samples from artists such as Ellie Goulding, Radiohead, Passion Pit, Yelle, Sufjan, and MGMT". Chiddy holds the Guinness Book World Record for the longest freestyle rap at over 9 hours. The duo's work has popped up in the video games Madden '12 and NBA 2K12.

Along with "Ray Charles", "Opposite of Adults" has been one of their mainstream hits, receiving over 19 million views on YouTube.

Earlier this year, Chiddy Bang released their first studio album Breakfast. Now they'll be getting the crowd hyped up for the Red Storm season; fans are excited to see the new players on board Coach Steve Lavin's Ark.

Having Lavin himself back to full health to coach his recruits is reason for excitement; he'll probably receive the biggest and most well-deserved ovation from the Red Storm faithful.

Red Storm Tip Off tickets (which are free, but limited) are available for pick up starting at 2PM at Carnesecca Arena in Queens; doors open at 7. For those who can't make it to the arena, the event will be streamed on ESPN3.
