You've been bombarded enough - Red Storm Tip-Off is finally upon us. As the college basketball season kicks off in Queens, so too will the on-site media coverage that brings us everything about the Johnnies.
The Rumble will be there in full force, along with a wide array of other team-oriented, local, or even national outlets. STJ-TV will have coverage of the event itself, bringing interviews and live look-ins on the action to be simulcast on ESPN3.
But, this year, the celebration extends outside of the Carnesecca Arena walls and before the official start of the event. The University's official radio station, WSJU Radio, is set to broadcast live outside the front entrance between 5-7 pm.
In years past, when Tip-Off was held next door in the smaller Taffner Fieldhouse, WSJU has covered the event. Now, the station is back at the season's opening party for the first time in three seasons, with a fresh new approach.
Coinciding with a University-sponsored barbecue, WSJU seeks to entertain St. John's fans as they step foot on campus and wait for doors to open at 7pm. It all contributes to a school-wide effort to increase awareness of basketball-related events and Steve Lavin's evolving program.
WSJU will be providing giveaways, including a chance to win free tickets to a TBD home game at either Carnesecca Arena or Madison Square Garden. The two-hour broadcast will also include Red Storm trivia and special guest interviews.
Ticket giveaways and live interviews with Coach Gene Keady and St. John's alumni D.J. Kennedy will occur during the 6:00 hour. If you can't make it to the event, the broadcast will be available via the internet at WSJURadio.org/ListenLive.
WSJU is a 100% student-operated organization, which has been part of the fabric of St. John's University since 1974.
WSJU Radio's complete itinerary for the Red Storm Tip-Off festivities are as follows:
- 5:00-5:20 - John Sudolsky & Steve Inman (St. John's juniors)
- 5:20-5:40 - Kyle Spinner (sophomore) & Annabelle Paul (freshman) - St. John's women's basketball discussion
- 5:40-6:00 - Quinn Rochford & Kieran Lynch (juniors)
- 6:00-7:00 - Jon Perez & Vince Ruffino (juniors, WSJU sports co-directors)
