The financial aid paperwork is in for late Texas recruit Christian Jones, a 6'7" forward who competed at Florida's IMG Academy last season; he's officially the eighth member of the 2012 St. John's Red Storm recruiting class.
Coach Lavin likes what Jones adds to the team (obviously). "Christian’s propensity for rebounding, defending and scoring in the basket area is ideally suited for the rugged BIG EAST conference," Steve Lavin said in the press release.
Lavin hopes that Jones develops his skill set in the next few years, providing backup to equally new forwards JaKarr Sampson, Chris Obekpa, and Orlando Sanchez... and to returning forward God`sgift Achiuwa. Jones is familiar with the fellow Texans on the roster, point guard Jamal Branch and shooting guard D`Angelo Harrison, mentioned as one of the best returnees at shooting guard in the nation by ESPN and CBS' Jon Rothstein.
"The arrival of the 2012 class will add the necessary size, skill and depth our team needed," Lavin adds. Coach Lavin is correct. Many of last season's issues could have been lessened with depth; we'll look back at the season past and the season to come in the coming weeks, and what differences we expect to see.
