ESPN's John Anderson to emcee Red Storm Tip-Off on October 12th

The St. John's Red Storm announced on Twitter that ESPN's John Anderson will be the Master of Ceremonies at next month's Red Storm Tip-Off. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 12th at Carnesecca Arena.

Anderson, who has been with the Worldwide Leader in Sports since 1999, first hosted the event two years ago. He and Lavin have maintained a relationship since their days working together at ESPN while Lavin served as a college basketball analyst from 2003 to 2010.

A familiar face from ESPN's Sportscenter and ABC's Saturday college football coverage and the hit reality show Wipeout, Anderson will attract even more excitement to campus for the season opening celebration. In 2010, he even sported a red and black argyle, Looie-esque sweater.

More, below the fold.

It is not yet confirmed whether Anderson's presence at the event means that ESPN will televise it in any capacity, as it did as part of its nationwide coverage on ESPNU two years ago. More details regarding the event will be released in the coming weeks.

Red Storm Tip-Off, or as most people may refer to it as "Midnight Madness," has become an annual event held on campus every October. Before head coach Steve Lavin was hired by St. John's, Tip-Off was held at the team's practice facility, Taffner Field House. The school has since moved the event next door to Carnesecca Arena to allow more fans to attend for free.

In past years, the men's and women's teams have held exciting introductions, lighthearted scrimmages, and dunk contests. Whatever the programs choose to do at this year's Tip-Off, it will certainly be an energizing beginning to the much-anticipated 2012-13 season.
