Women's Soccer beats Xavier, ties Creighton

This passed weekend, the Lady Red Storm came away with a win over visiting Xavier, but tied Creighton

St. John's 2, Xavier 0

Sophomore Rachel Daly scored both Red Storm goals as St. John's came away with its first BIG EAST win of 2013 in a 2-0 victory over visiting Xavier. In net, Diana Poulin came away with her fourth shutout of the season, improving to 7-1-1 in 2013. Daly's two goals put her back on top of the NCAA leaderboard.

In the 31st minute, Daly took a penalty kick and ripped one just under the crossbar to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, the Johnnies took advantage of a botched clear attempt and Rachel Hoffman found Daly streaking down the lane. Daly finished with her left foot to give St. John's a 2-0 lead and her 13th goal of the season.

St. John's 0, Creighton 0 (2 OT)

Some say ties are like kissing a sibling. The Red Storm came away with a bitter taste in their mouth after setting a new season-high with 30 shots and 10 corner kicks, but couldn't put one passed the Creighton keeper, finishing in a scoreless draw after regulation and two overtime periods.

Daly put on a shooting clinic, coming away with 13 shots. On the other hand, Creighton only mustered eight shots total. As a team.

Creighton's keeper saved 11 shots; St. John's sophomore keeper, Ellen Conway, earned the start in goal and kept the clean sheet.

The Red Storm travel to Wisconsin to take on Marquette as they continue conference play on Oct. 8.
