At 0-5 in the Big East, St. John's needs a win. Dartmouth, while not in the Big East, gives the Johnnies a chance to bask in the glow of a W, find some combinations that work, and figure out their late game stretegy.
Dartmouth has five wins over Division I opponents, all of whom rank below 300 (of 3510 in Ken Pomeroy's rankings. St. John's should handle the Big Gren easily.
"Should."
Early struggles at Carnesecca were a harbinger of the deep issues the team has had in Big East play; wins came on the strength of trnsition spurts and defensive stands, not on cohesion and offensive acumen.
How witll the Johnnies handle today? Dartmouth plays a tall lineup led by Gabas Maldunas, one of the country's best defensive rebounders, and guard Alex Mitola, a high school and AAU teammate of Seton Hall freshman Jaren Sina. Mitola shoots 40% from beyond the arc. Maldunas averages 8.5 total rebounds per game.
DARTMOUTH FUN FACT
Dartmouth is named for the 2nd Earl of Dartmouth, who opposed the creation of the school. The area called Dartmouth in England is named for the mouth of the River Dart.
NOTE:
Will will have your postgame today. I'm going to go have a drink.
