There is a deep history to St. John's and Georgetown, two of the teams that made the Big East the notable conference it is today...
But the concern for the Red Storm isn't the past that fans hearken back to; it's securing the present promise of Steve Lavin's team. With hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years, the Johnnies need to start winning games.
As Andrew said in his game preview,
With the dynamic backcourt of Marklel Starks and D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the Hoyas have open shot makers. Steve Lavin knows that Xavier's game plan may be similar to Georgetown's game plan against St. John's, noting after the Xavier game that the Hoyas also depend on brute strength and playing through the paint.
The Hoyas have been successful against the core of this St. John's roster, holding D`Angelo Harrison to 22% shooting in his four games, creating traffic wherever he goes. That issue of playing in traffic loomed large in the Big East opener against Xavier; Lavin likened it to "playing in tight quarters, like a closet."
What adjustments will the Johnnies have? Point them out as they come up, let's talk about the game.
