Big Dance coming back to NYC: St. John's to host 2017 NCAA Men's East Regional at Madison Square Garden

East Regional returning to the "mecca of basketball."

St. John's University and the Big East Conference will host the NCAA Tournament 2017 East Regional at Madison Square Garden. Just like last year, the "World's Most Famous Arena" will showcase the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8.

The games are scheduled for March 24 and March 26 of 2017

According to NJ.com, the first semifinal on March 24, 2017 will be the 75th NCAA Tournament game held at MSG.

The winner of the East Regional will be invited to the Final Four and will play at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals.

Last season, the East Regional produced the eventual National Champion, the Connecticut Huskies. The Huskies defeated both Iowa State (Sweet 16) and Michigan State (Elite 8) at the Garden before heading out to the Final Four.

What does this mean for the Johnnies and their squad? According to NCAA rules, the host team is not allowed to play in their own arena in the NCAA Tournament. So that means if St. John's does make the postseason in 2017, they won't be a part of the East region, and they will be relocated to other regions dependent on their seed.
