Playing their intra-city competition, the St. John's Red Storm topped the Fordham Rams 74-53 from the comforts of Madison Square Garden. Leading the way for the Johnnies was D'Angelo Harrison, who dropped 22 points to go along with his three rebounds. Helping him form a lethal duo was Rysheed Jordan, who would add 24 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
After jumping out to an 11-point halftime lead thanks to Rysheed Jordan's 13 points in the first half, the Rams were unable to answer the aggressive play of the Johnnies. Both Antwoine Anderson and Chris Obekpa would pick up technical fouls in the first half after a skirmish with 6:54 to play, with the Red Storm pulling away after that.
The Rams downfall was turnovers. St. John's forced their counterparts into 11 first half giveaways, allowing them to take advantage in the open court. For the game, Fordham would finish with 20 turnovers, in comparison to just eight for the Red Storm, sealing the Rams' fate in a rout at the Garden.
Starting the second half, the Johnnies took control with a 20-2 run that was highlighted by two dunks from Sir'Dominic Pointer.
The leading scorer for the Rams was Eric Paschall with 14 points.
With this win, St. John's moves to 8-1 on the season, with a 6-0 record at home. Up next for the Johnnies are the St. Mary's Gaels on Friday night at 7 p.m. from Carnesecca Arena in Queens.
