Doug McDermott was named NABC National Player of the Year. Would you have picked someone else? McDermott was also a three-time All-American, joining a mostly old-school list of luminaries including Ralph Beard, Tom Gola, Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, Lew Alcindor, Pete Maravich, Bill Walton, David Thompson, Ralph Sampson, Patrick Ewing and Tyler Hansbrough.
St. John's baseball won 11 games in a row before the loss to Towson University on March 29. Kudos to the team, whose baseball RPI sits at 114, but are build to peak in April after playing much of their first month on the road - and going 3-10 in that period. The Johnnies are 15-11 on the season so far. Today, they face Wagner in Staten Island at 3:00 PM.
St. John's and Rutgers will renew rivalries - on the lacrosse field. The Johnnies and the Knights face off this evening in a conference clash (Rutgers is still in the Big East for Lax) at 7:00 PM in New Jersey. The Knights are the Johnnies' most-played opponent, having played each other 21 times in total. Senior Kieran McArdle continues to assault the record books, setting new St. John's highs in points, assists and goals.
