It's that time in July when college coaches crisscross the country, babysitting players they have recruited, stalking players they'd love to have sign a Letter of Intent, and longingly stare at the skill sets of teenagers who they think can keep the fan base happy for years to come.
The July Evaluation Period is here, where familiar faces will sit in gyms wearing polo shirts with their college's colors and logos.
No, we don't know which players St. John's is targeting - outside of New Jersey guard Isaiah Briscoe, New York Center Cheick Diallo and New Orleans scoring guard Brandon Sampson (who injured his hand last week and will likely be laying low for the next few weeks).
But we do know, given the likely departures coming after this year that the Red Storm will be active during the July Recruiting Open Periods, which will be:
- July 9-13
- July 16-20
- July 23-27
CBS Sports has compiled a list of major events happening in the next few weeks, reprinted below. We will keep an eye for St. John's coaches who are noted as being at the sessions. We know Cheick Diallo and Briscoe will be at Nike Peach Jam and possibly at the LeBron James Skills Academy, and will be monitoring for where Steve Lavin, Tony Chiles, and the rest of the coaches pop up.
For more on why the period is important, and what coaches are looking for on every level, read this piece from NBC Sports as well.
