2015-16 Big East Preseason Awards Announced

The stars of the Big East are in New York City for Media Day this morning, and the full list of preseason awards has just been released.

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

With the college basketball season creeping closer and closer, it's time for Big East Media Day. And with this day come the announcement of the conference's preseason awards. Here is a full list of them below.

Big East Preseason Player of the Year

Kris Dunn- Providence

Probably the most obvious choice of the day. Kris Dunn is one of the best guards in the country and will likely be a lottery pick in next year's draft.

Big East Preseason Rookie of the Year

Jalen Brunson- Villanova

Jalen Brunson takes this one home over the conference's other heralded rookie, Marquette's Henry Ellenson. You really couldn't go wrong picking either one.

Preseason All-Big East First Team

Kellen Dunham- Butler

Roosevelt Jones- Butler

D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera- Georgetown

Ryan Arcidiacono- Villanova

Jalen Reynolds- Xavier

Butler's duo of Kellen Dunham and Roosevelt Jones lead things off, while last season's Big East Preseason Player of the Year D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera is also featured. The 2015 Big East Co-Player of the Year Ryan Arcidiacono obviously makes the team, while Xavier's Jalen Reynolds rounds out the list.

Preseason All-Big East Second Team

Henry Ellenson- Marquette

Angel Delgado- Seton Hall

Isaiah Whitehead- Seton Hall

Daniel Ochefu- Villanova

Billy Garrett Jr.- DePaul

Marquette's Ellenson wasn't able to garner the preseason rookie of the year award, but he is listed here. Seton Hall's Angel Delgado and Isaiah Whitehead are also featured as the Pirates look to rebound from a disappointing end to the 2014-15 season. Rounding out the list are Daniel Ochefu of Villanova and Billy Garrett Jr. of DePaul.

Preseason All-Big East Honorable Mention

Isaac Copeland- Georgetown

Luke Fischer- Marquette

Jalen Brunson- Villanova

Trevon Bluiett- Xavier

Four solid players round out the awards for the day. Isaac Copeland of Georgetown should play a big role if the Hoyas want to compete for the Big East crown, while Luke Fischer returns to Marquette after a solid first season with the Golden Eagles. Jalen Brunson of Villanova and Trevon Bluiett of Xavier also receive honorable mentions.

Preseason Coaches Poll

1. Villanova

2. Georgetown

3. Butler

4. Xavier

5. Providence

6. Marquette

7. Seton Hall

8. DePaul

9. Creighton

10. St. John's

Not many surprises at the top as Villanova leads the way with Georgetown and Butler trailing just behind them. Xavier is a solid program that is expected to compete once again this season, and Providence has the star power to have a shot at the Big East title. Marquette and their new pieces are ranked sixth, while Seton Hall, DePaul, Creighton, and St. John's are expected to finish near the bottom of the conference.

It appears as though the Big East coaches believe that Chris Mullin will have a significant amount of work to do in his first season in Queens, as the Johnnies are picked to finish last in the Big East. St. John's also did not have one player on any of the preseason teams this season.

Are you surprised that St. John's has been picked to finish last in the conference this season? Do you see Chris Mullin and the Red Storm surpassing those not-so-lofty expectations in 2015-16?
