What's happening this week in Red Storm sports?

Men's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer headline this week's action

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

With basketball season approaching and the women's soccer team set to begin their postseason run, there is a lot of activity this week for the Red Storm.

Men's soccer to wrap up their regular season action

Dr. Dave Masur's squad (4-10-3) will finish their regular season schedule with a trip to Providence to play the Friars at Ray Treacy Track on Thursday night (7 p.m.). The Red Storm were filled with newcomers this season and freshman forward Mike Prosuk has proved to be a strong building block and a major bright spot moving forward.

Women's soccer off to Omaha

Ian Stone's women's soccer team (15-2-1) will begin their Big East Tournament postseason run with a date against Marquette or Butler on Friday (5:30 p.m.) at Morrison Stadium. St. John's is the number one seed in the tournament and will have the benefit of time off and a first round bye.

If the Red Storm do indeed win their opening game, they advance to the Championship, which will be played on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Keep an eye on the front headed attack of Rachel Daly and Lucy Whipp as they try to lead the Johnnies back to the NCAA Tournament.

Men's basketball tips-off preseason slate

The men's basketball team (and Chris Mullin) will begin their preseason slate on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game against St. Thomas Aquinas at Carnesecca Arena. They will follow up with their second and final exhibition match-up on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Sonoma State.

Volleyball looks to snap a losing streak

The volleyball team will look to snap a three game losing streak on Friday night (7 p.m.) against the Providence Friars at Carnesecca Arena. Joanne Persico's unit is 15-13 on the season and have five games remaining before the conference's postseason tournament takes center stage in Omaha.
