Today in the Mid-Day Rumble, Cheick Diallo and Kassoum Yakwe have been cleared, Michigan State beat Boston College behind Denzel Valentine and Marcus Paige is confident he will return versus Maryland.
The biggest news of the week in college basketball comes out of Kansas as Cheick Diallo will be cleared for action on December 1st. The NCAA ruled that Diallo was given limited extra benefits and that a five-game suspension was the correct punishment. The Jayhawks face off against Loyola (MD) on Tuesday.
Diallo will add even more athleticism and talent to a 5th ranked Kansas roster that is coming off a Maui Invitational tournament title against Vanderbilt. The Our Savior New American prospect was the Jordan Brand Classic co-MVP and participated in the McDonald's All-American game. Diallo is raw but brings one of the greatest motors in the 2015 recruiting class.
Meanwhile, Diallo's Our Savior teammate and St. John's freshman Kassoum Yakwe was also cleared on Wednesday during the team's game versus Chaminade. According to the New York Post, there are no plans to redshirt Yakwe and his first action is expected to come in the Bronx against Fordham on Wednesday.
Yakwe is considered one of Chris Mullin's top 2015 recruits (with Marcus LoVett, Yankuba Sima and Federico Mussini being the other) and his length, athleticism and defensive prowess will greatly help the Johnnies as they continue down the rebuilding road.
In Tom Izzo's 500th win on Thanksgiving, senior guard/forward Denzel Valentine notched his second triple-double of the season. Warriors forward Draymond Green was in attendance for the Spartans impressive blow out performance against Boston College in the first round of the Wooden Legacy Classic.
Next up for Michigan State is Friday's game against James Webb III and Boise State.
Colorado played Air Force on Wednesday and the story of the match-up was not the fact the Buffaloes improved to 4-1 on this young season and that George King has shown great improvement. Instead, it was about sophomore forward Tory Miller biting his opponent's shoulder and getting ejected.
The Maryland Terps and the North Carolina Tar Heels will face off in a battle between two top-10 teams on Tuesday night and Roy Williams is expected to have point guard Marcus Paige in the lineup. Paige has missed all six of the Tar Heels' games because of a fractured hand.
The Tar Heels' lone loss comes on the road to a solid Northern Iowa squad.
