In the final top 25 rankings before postseason play begins, the St. John's Red Storm received top 25 votes for the second straight week. The Johnnies dropped four spots in the AP Poll back to number 33 overall after they received six top 25 votes earlier today.

St. John's continued their roll against Marquette on Wednesday in a 67-51 victory, however their four-game winning streak was halted when they allowed 55 second-half points and suffered an embarrassing 105-68 loss to Villanova over the weekend. Heading into the Big East Tournament, the Red Storm will face Providence in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 2:30 P.M.

Poll Movements Across the Big East

The Villanova Wildcats retained their number four overall ranking today after they won two more games this week to push their winning streak up to 12 straight games. Finishing the regular season with a dominant 29-2 record, the Wildcats ran away with the Big East regular season title, going 14-2 in conference play and finishing four games ahead of second-place Georgetown.

As the one-seed in the upcoming Big East Tournament, Villanova will have a bye into the quarterfinals, where they'll face the winner of Marquette-Seton Hall.

Moving down one spot to number 22 in the rankings after splitting a pair of games this week are the Butler Bulldogs. Butler played two straight close games over the past week, first falling 60-54 to Georgetown on Tuesday before defeating then-24th-ranked Providence over the weekend, 68-64.

With a 22-9 overall record and 12-6 conference record, the Bulldogs finished in third place in the Big East this season. As one of the most surprising teams in the nation this season, they'll kick off postseason play against Xavier in the Big East Tournament on Thursday.

The Georgetown Hoyas came in one spot right behind Butler at number 23 in the nation today, re-entering the rankings once again. The Hoyas have now won five of their last six games, including a pair of wins this week over Butler and Seton Hall.

Finishing 20-9 overall on the season and holding a 12-6 Big East record, they secured a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament and will play the winner of Creighton and DePaul on Thursday night.

There would be only three Big East teams to achieve a top 25 ranking this week, however, as the Providence Friars dropped out of the top 25 today. Previously at number 24 overall, the Friars lost 68-64 at home against Butler over the weekend, dropping them to 21-10 overall and 11-7 in the Big East.

As the four-seed in this week's Big East Tournament, Providence will face off with St. John's for the second straight season in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Xavier Musketeers have dropped three of their last five games in the Big East, however they were able to finish with a 9-9 record in the conference and a 19-12 record overall. With a strong RPI and BPI, it appears that the Musketeers will be in a good position to make the NCAA Tournament next week, however they will be the six-seed in this week's Big East Tournament.

A victory over third-seeded Butler would all but erase any small doubts that they may have about missing out on the tournament.

The bottom four teams who will face off with each other in the Big East Tournament's opening round on Wednesday are Seton Hall, DePaul, Creighton, and Marquette.

The seven-seed DePaul will take on 10th-seeded Creighton, with the winner facing Georgetown, while eight-seed Seton Hall takes on ninth-seed Marquette, and the winner will face Villanova.
