NCAA Profile: Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns return to their third straight tournament, looking to make the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Team: Texas Longhorns

Conference: Big 12 Conference

Coach: Shaka Smart

Record: 20-12 (11-7 conference)

KenPom Rank: 30

Good Wins: North Carolina, Iowa State, at/vs West Virginia, at Baylor, Oklahoma.

Impact Players: Isaiah Taylor leads the team in scoring and assists, while senior Javan Felix averages in double-figures as well. Cameron Ridley, who is nearly averaging a double-double in 12 games this season, saw the court for the first time in three months in the Big 12 Tournament. Connor Lammert, Kerwin Roach and Eric Davis all see playing time as well.

How did they get in?: As a team in the top half of the Big 12 this season, the Longhorns were comfortably in the tournament even with their early exit in the conference tourney. Wins over West Virginia, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Baylor show that they can play with some of the best teams in the nation.

How far can this team go in the NCAA Tournament?: With that in mind, it wouldn't be a shock to see the 'Horns make a run deep into March, although you can say that about nearly 25 teams this season. They do have some bad losses to TCU and Texas Tech, although if the tough Big 12 has prepared them for anything this season, it would be their next few games.

Last time in the NCAA Tournament: 2015. They were bounced in the Second Round by Butler.
