NCAA Profile: Maryland Terrapins

The Terps have had designs on the Final Four all year.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Team: Maryland Terrapins

Conference: Big Ten

Coach: Mark Turgeon

Record: 25-8 (12-6 conference)

KenPom Rank: 23

Good Wins: Connecticut, at Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue

Impact Players: Melo Trimble was expected to shine in his sophomore season after a stellar freshman campaign, but his numbers have actually gone down since his freshman year. Freshman Diamond Stone has been strong in the frontcourt, as has Robert Carter. Jake Layman and Duke transfer Rasheed Sulaimon both see big minutes as well.

How did they get in?: As the preseason number three team in the nation, the Terrapins clearly have underperformed as the season has gone on, but they are still a top 25 team and easily a tournament team, even with their loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten.

How far can this team go in the NCAA Tournament?: On paper, Maryland probably has one of the more talented teams in the country, but can they put it together and win a few in a row to make a run? Since their 15-1 start the Terrapins have gone just 10-7 and are clearly trending downwards heading into the tournament, could an early exit be in their future?

Last time in the NCAA Tournament: 2014.
