NCAA Profile: Notre Dame Fighting Irish

With wins over Duke and North Carolina, the Irish certainly have confidence heading into the postseason.

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Team: Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Conference: Atlantic Coast Conference

Coach: Mike Brey

Record: 21-11, 11-7 in conference

KenPom Rank: 39

Good wins: Notre Dame has wins over both of North Carolina's basketball powerhouses. ND beat Duke in January 95-91 and went on to defeat North Carolina, 80-76 a month later. They later knocked out Duke in the ACC quarterfinals but lost to North Carolina in the semis. By a lot (78-47).

Impact players: Junior Demetrius Jackson is an incredibly versatile point guard who can find ways to score. Jackson is second in the ACC for assists, averaging 4.8 per game.  Senior Zach Auguste is leading the conference in rebounds, averaging 10.8 per game.

How did they get in? Notre Dame drew the 6-seed and will face the winner of Michigan/Tulsa ‘First Four' game. The Irish have shown that they can hang with one of the best college basketball leagues in the country.

How far can this team go in the NCAA Tournament? Notre Dame is returning a majority of its starters from last season's magical tourney run so it could happen again. Although, the East is going to be a tough region with teams like Kentucky, North Carolina, West Virginia and Xavier. But, if Notre Dame gets far enough to matchup with North Carolina, they will be going into that game with a whole lot of confidence.

Last time in the NCAA Tournament? Last season (2015). The Irish are coming off a historic run to the Elite Eight, knocking off #14 Northeastern, #6 Butler and #7 Wichita State before falling to #1 Kentucky, 68-66.
