NCAA Profile: Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats will play Stony Brook in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Team: Kentucky Wildcats

Conference: SEC

Coach: John Calipari

Record: 26-8, 13-5

KenPom Ranking: 7

Good wins: Duke, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Florida (twice), Texas A&M

Impact Players: Jamal Murray (20.1 ppg), Tyler Ulis (17.2 ppg, 7.2 apg, 3.2 rpg, 1.5 spg), Alex Poythress (10.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Isaiah Briscoe (9.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg)

How did they get in?: During the regular season, the Wildcats tied Texas A&M atop the SEC standings and finished off their year with a run through the SEC Tournament. They beat Alabama, Georgia and A&M on the road to their championship.

Calipari's squad did hit a rough patch early in conference play, but with the emergence of Derek Willis (who stretches the floor as a four man) and recent efficiency of Murray, the Wildcats have become one of the hottest teams in the nation.

How far can this team go in the NCAA Tournament?: The Wildcats have the talent and potential to win the whole thing. Sure, they have a difficult region (the East) but they have the best backcourt in the country and when Skal Labissiere plays like he played down the stretch, they are even more dangerous.

Last time in the NCAA Tournament: 2015 when they lost in the Final Four to Wisconsin.
