With Seton Hall needing to avoid a bad loss, the Johnnies will look to play spoiler and snap their 10 game losing streak in Newark on Wednesday night. The Red Storm once again put up a strong fight in their last Big East outing against Marquette, but fell short as they rallied from down 20 in the second half.
The Pirates have excellent guards, Isaiah Whitehead, Khadeen Carrington and Desi Rodriguez, who love to attack and penetrate the defense. Kevin Willard's team also has physical talent in the interior in Angel Delgado and Ismael Sanogo, who will have a clear advantage over Amar Alibegovic, Kassoum Yakwe and Christian Jones. Seton Hall has a couple quality wins (Wichita State and at Providence) but they can ill afford to have a loss to the Red Storm on their resume come March.
It will be interesting to see if Chris Mullin continues to press after it worked successfully in the second half versus the Golden Eagles. While Whitehead is not Haanif Cheatham and Carrington is not Traci Carter, the energy and aggressiveness that the Red Storm played with on Sunday could create some easy points that could help them pull off an upset.
How does Yakwe deal with the physical play inside?
Will Federico Mussini be able to attack and knock down shots consistently versus long, quality guards?
Ron Mvouika always seems to struggle in first halves. Can he get out to a quick start offensively and look for his shot?
