According to Jon Rothstein of Today’s U, St. John’s will compete in the 2017 AdvoCare Invitational.
This tournament is formerly known as the Old Spice Classic, or Orlando Classic. It will presumptively be held around Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando, Florida. It is a non-elimination style tournament, meaning all eight teams will get to play three games.
Official announcements regarding bracket, match-ups, and dates are expected in the future. Below you can find all participating teams.
- West Virginia Mountaineers
- St. John’s Red Storm
- Nebraska Cornhuskers
- Missouri Tigers
- Oregon State Beavers
- Central Florida Knights
- Long Beach State 49ers
- Marist Red Foxes
This tournament is certainly one of the more intriguing preseason events around the nation. There is not one elite basketball program competing, although West Virginia is solid year in and year out. Some programs in this tournament will probably still be in football mode come Thanksgiving of 2017. Regardless, St. John’s should have an opportunity to pick up a few meaningful contests out of this preseason tournament. It should be noted that this tournament in its entirety is carried by the ESPN family of networks.
Xavier cruised through this tournament last year, topping Alabama, Southern Cal, and Dayton en route to an AdvoCare Invitational title. This season Gonzaga, Florida, Miami, and Seton Hall, among others will travel to Orlando for this event.
