Marcus LoVett earned a spot on the Big East’s Honor Roll this week after his 31-point explosion against Minnesota to keep St. John’s close in the 92-86 loss on the road to the Golden Gophers. LoVett, according to the school’s press rel;ease, is the second-highest scoring freshman in the NCAA to Washington’s Markelle Fultz, and is in the top 20 in per game scoring in the NCAA.
LoVett, who is averaging 24 points per game on the season, is joined on the Big East’s list by Playerr of the Week Josh Hart (Villanova); Freshman of the Week Myles Powell (Seton Hall); and on the Honor Roll, Creighton’s Maurice Watson, Providence’s Rodney Bullock, Seton Hall’s Desi Rodriguez and Xavier’s J.P. Macura.
Meanwhile, the AP poll may not have St. John’s, but other teams of interest have warranted mentions.
Seton Hall and Butler are receiving votes, Villanova is second to Kentucky, and Xavier and Creighton are top-15 teams.
Upcoming opponent Michigan State is ranked at 24. Possible second-round opponent in the Battle 4 Atlantis, Baylor, is ranked 20. Potential third-round opponent Louisville is ranked at 10; Wichita State, another potential third-round opponent, is receiving votes.
VCU, Old Dominion and LSU received no votes.
