Shamorie Ponds has been officially named to the Jordan Brand Classic game to be played in the Barclays Center on April 15.

Ponds, the Brooklyn standout who led Thomas Jerfferson High School to city and state championships this month, will join a roster with four Kentucky commits, three Duke commits, two Michigan State recruits, and players going to North Carolina, Connecticut, Texas, Louisville and Villanova.

Ponds is the only New York City player in the game, and is the first named to the Jordan Classic since Sir`Dominic Pointer received the honor is 2011.

The 6'1" guard is expected to play a large part in next season's Red Storm, one of five or more newcomers who will help Chris Mullin's squad rise above the 8-24 record. Ponds will be joined by fellow incoming freshman forward Richard Freudenberg, redshirted freshman point guard Marcus LoVett, redshirted sophomore center Tariq Owens, incoming junior college transfer Bashir Ahmed - and possibly more transfers.
