Orlando Sanchez signs with French pro club

Playing in South America last season, Sanchez takes his game across the water.

Orlando Sanchez has signed with French basketball club Le Havre. The city is in the north of France in Normandy, and the club has been relegated to the second Division (French Pro B) after a 4-20 record last season which placed them in last place.

The 28-year old 6'9" forward left St. John's in 2014 and landed with the Knicks' Developmental League team in Westchester. Sanchez started 26 games, averaging nine points and six rebounds in 25 minutes of play, shooting 31% from outside of the arc and 44% inside the arc.

He has also played for the Puerto Rican club Piratas de Quebradillas and in Venezuela for the Bucaneros de La Guaira. In Venezuela, he started 32 of 37 games, averaging 11 points, six rebounds and nearly two assists per game - more in line with the point-forward game he showed at times at St. John's. That team finished second in their league, going 31-23; Sanchez shot 28% behind the three-point line and 55% inside the line.

Can he lift the fortunes of Le Havre?
