St. John’s was devastating late in the second half, with defensive pressure damming up the Oregon State attack. The Johnnies pulled a tough win out of seemingly nowhere, and move on to the winner’s bracket in the Advocare Tournament.
The Red Storm, on the other hand, struggled to find the basket for most of the game, despite doing solid work on the glass and strong work forcing turnovers. But the team’s perimeter defense and shooting struggled on the first day in Orlando against the Oregon State Beavers.
But the team cohesion is there to pull out a win when the plan isn’t working.

Watch for
- How well will St. John’s be able to negate Jontay Porter and Jeremiah Tilmon (and others) on the glass on both ends? The Missouri size could lead to a rebounding advantage.
- Will St. John’s pack the paint and make the Mizzou guards shoot? Blake Harris seems, so far, to not want to shoot from the outside. But that kind of passive defense isn’t what St. John’s has done successfully.
