Shamorie Ponds named to Big East weekly Honor Roll

St. John’s Shamorie Ponds has been named to this week’s Big East Honor Roll after averaging 21 points, six rebounds six assists and almost two steals in the Advocare Invitational Tournament.

Per St. John’s official release, Ponds was 10 points short of the record, held by Kansas State’s Michael Beasley’s three-game scoring record.

We have not seen the Advocare Invitational All-Tournament team press release, but we see that Jevon Carter of West Virginia won MVP. Daxter Miles earned a spot, as did Ponds, Missouri’s Jontay Porter and Jordan Barnett.

The Big East Player of the Week was Jalen Brunson; the freshman of the week was Mitchell Ballock, who apparently is listed as the more friendly “Mitch” now.

Big East Player of the Week

Jalen Brunson, Villanova, G, Jr. – Brunson won MVP honors while leading the Wildcats to the Battle 4 Atlantis title. He averaged 19.7 points and 4.0 assists in wins over Western Kentucky (66-58), Tennessee (85-76) and Northern Iowa (64-50) that gave the Wildcats their fifth November tournament title in as many years.

Big East Freshman of the Week

Mitch Ballock, Creighton, G, Fr. -- Ballock averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Bluejays.

Creighton is also ranked in the AP Top-25 after their undefeated start.

Big East Honor Roll

Kelan Martin, Butler, F, Sr. Averaged 17.3 points in a 2-1 week at the PK80.

Andrew Rowsey, Marquette, G, Sr. Was named to Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 25.3 points and helping MU to a third-place finish with a 2-1 record.

Rodney Bullock, Providence, F, Sr. Averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in wins over Belmont (66-65) and Boston College (86-66).

Shamorie Ponds, St. John’s, G, So. Averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.7 steals in helping the Red Storm finish third in Advocare Invitational. Had 31 points in win over Missouri (90-82).

Angel Delgado, Seton Hall, C, Sr. Made the All-Tournament Team at the NIT Tip-Off by averaging 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games.
