Plus a note on that serial killer who was a St. John’s student

As the calendar gets closer to the meat of college basketball season, we will periodically have these link posts - morning or evening “Rumbles” - to help keep you informed about interesting notes and links around college hoops. (That way, maybe you can refresh Facebook or Twitter one fewer time, or something.)

Power rankings!

Are you reading the Big East Power Rankings from Big East Coast Bias? You should be.

This week, the power rankings look like this:

10. DePaul

9. Georgetown

8. Butler

7. St. John’s

6. Marquette

5. Providence

4. Seton Hall

3. Creighton

2. Xavier

1. Villanova

For what it’s worth, my only differences were: Marquette at 7, St. John’s at 6.

Are we interested in doing power rankings in comments here on the Rumble?

Other odds and ends:

Yes, we know a one-time early season walk-on was arrested in Tampa for being a serial killer. That’s a sad tragedy, but not a reflection of anything, including Steve Lavin or the program.

From the Queens Chronicle:

...a university source said Donaldson’s tenure with the Johnnies with informal and extremely brief, saying he was cut before the season started and he shouldn’t necessarily be described as a walk-on.

“He was used for a few early morning practices along with a small group of other walk-ons who were dropped prior to the commencement of the season,” the source said. “Never suited up. No locker, etc.”

According to the alleged killer’s LinkedIn page, which was also deleted Wednesday, he also worked as a student marketing assistant at St. John’s and as a guest experience host with the New York Mets in 2016.

Did you know former St. John’s guard Max Hooper is playing in Canada now?

At Butler, you can officially buy alcohol at games.

Joe Lunardi thinks that if the season ended today, the Red Storm would be in his bracket.

On Marquette, a tidbit, a smidgen:

Rick Pitino keeps on giving:

OFF TOPIC!

If you want to pick a World Cup team, use this quiz from FiveThirtyEight to help you choose. Except... I got Costa Rica.
