Game thread: St. John's vs Marquette

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Vroom vroom! Start your engines, St. John's and Marquette - two of the teams that play at the fastest paces in the Big East, meet for the first of two meetings this season.

Marquette, a team that was thought to be a bottom-half squad, currently looks to be on the right side of the NCAA bubble after a win over Villanova and a road win over Creighton. But a 5-4 record blemished by a loss to Providence at home leaves the Golden Eagles in a need-to-win territory against St. John's.

Meanwhile, St. John's has showed signs of being able to hang with the rest of the league on offense, falling just short of Xavier this weekend at the Garden and knocking off Providence on the road. At 4-6, this isn't a bad Big East season, though the overall record for St. John's deserves scrutiny.
