Luther Muhammad, a shooting guard that St. John’s has pursued for a long while, will come to the Queens campus for his official visit.

Finally.

The 2018 class has been a target for the Red Storm to restock the talent base. Shooting guard Muhammad, 6’3” shooting guard with some talent to create his shot off the bounce and defensive skills, is a key target for Chris Mullin and Matt Abdelmassih, who leads the recruiting efforts.

According to Zagsblog, he has set two official visits: St. John’s from June 23-25 and Butler from June 28-30.

Interestingly, Muhammad is also working on his combo guard skills:

Meantime, Muhammad, a natural shooting guard, is transitioning to become a point guard with the Rens.

“It’s coming along really well as far as knowing when to score, pass, slow the game down, speed the game up, knowing how to run a team, getting everyone in the right spot and putting everyone in a position to play to their strengths,” he said. “I want to make everyone around me better.”

Said Rens coach Chris Alesi: “Luther is the prototpyical combo guard who, over the past month or so, has made a smooth transition to playing as a pure point guard, which is what he projects to be in college.”

Muhammad, who will be a senior this coming season, plays for the NY Rens in AAU ball after running with Sports U on the Under Armour circuit. He plays his high school season at Hudson Catholic in New Jersey.
