Scottie Lewis, top 2019 SF, to visit St. John’s

Can the Johnnies land an elite talent from New Jersey?

The Red Storm’s quest to keep homegrown talent at home continues as the Johnnies have earned one of Scottie Lewis’ five allotted official recruiting visits.

Lewis will take his official visit to St. John’s on October 5-7, Friday to Sunday, just before Columbus Day. His first visit will be to the University of Florida on September 7-9, per Pat Lawless.

Lewis, a 2019 wing ranked in the top-10 in the major recruiting sites, is from New Jersey. Playing for the Ranney School in high school and for former Rutgers coach Mike Rice for Team Rio on the Under Armour circuit, Lewis has collected offers from Kentucky, Florida, Villanova and Duke, all while impressing scouts across the country.

He has an unparallelled ability, at 6’6”, to get through and finish through traffic, along with his ability to defend and his on-court IQ.

Chris Mullin and the St. John’s staff has prioritized Lewis for years, hoping to see the versatile and athletic finisher come to Queens for his college years.

Is it a long shot? It’s hard to know. Obviously, Lewis has his pick of programs, and will need to balance proximity, perceived quality of team, team’s ability to showcase his abilities, coach personality and more.

The Rumble will keep track of Lewis’ moves — and of any news that may sway his decision. He has had a long connection with the Johnnies and Mullin, and the Red Storm hope that connection will bring him to be a star in Queens.
