“Create havoc, create turnovers,” Mike Anderson said about areas of concentration for St. John’s, “but we want to take care of the basketball. I think that’s the biggest thing and not let people get comfortable, especially in Carnesecca Arena, Madison Square Garden, wherever it is.”

The time is now and the place is Carnesecca Arena, where hope in the form of a new coach, springs eternal.

Will the fans show up for the first game? Will the team? And if the team shows up, can they stifle the likely four-guard attack and shooting talent of the Mercer Bears?

Neither team will know that much about the other, given the changes on both sidelines. This is a basketball game that will speak to talent — and how well the team has absorbed the system.
