As Jon Rothstein reports, St. John’s will square-off with Arizona State in the 2019 Hall-of-Fame Classic.
The event will take place at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Virginia and UMass will play in the other game, on the other side of the bracket.

This non-conference matchup will be a rematch game from this past NCAA Tournament. Arizona State ended St. John’s season in Dayton, topping them in the First Four round.
The Johnnies will get a chance to play against coach Bobby Hurley, who declined to fill the most recent coaching vacancy in Queens.
Outside of their most recent NCAA Tournament matchup, the Red Storm and Sun Devils also played each other in the season before that. In 2017, Arizona State topped St. John’s 82-70 in Los Angeles.
Next season’s Red Storm schedule is certainly shaping up to a bit tougher than previous years’ slates.
What we know:
- Vermont (reported to be a home game)
- Arizona State (2019 Hall-of-Fame Classic)
- Virginia or UMass (2019 Hall-of-Fame Classic)
- West Virginia (Big 12/Big East challenge; St. John’s will host)
- Likely a Big Ten team as part of the annual Gavitt Games
New head coach Mike Anderson will have his chance to pick up a few marquee victories early in his tenure. Luckily for his Red Storm, a few of those big out of conference matchups will be close to home.
