Chris Mullin has officially stepped down as head coach of the Red Storm program, citing personal reasons. The school has offered congratulations and wished him well, but much of the reporting around the situation makes it sound like a bit of a nudge (which is the reason why Chris Mullin is seeking a buyout).
The old school coach who tried to implement a version of the Warriors’ wide open style (from back in his playing days in San Francisco under Don Nelson and the modern style under Mark Jackson and now Steve Kerr) is gone.
The Johnnies, with a new Athletic Director in Mike Cragg, who spent decades at Duke, wants to get it right. “Our goal is to win Big East championships and compete at the highest level of Division I, especially in March,” Cragg said in the statement announcing the coaching change.
The Red Storm supposedly have targets in mind, and fans have heroes in their heads.
