St. John’s needs a win over Georgetown.
For the players’ psyches. To extend the fans’ patience. To give Mike Anderson a chance to continue his streak of non-losing seasons intact.
There is a lot of chatter about the things that seem wrong with the St. John’s Red Storm — questions of talent, the defense, the youth, the coaching. At the heart of everything may be the makeup of the team — lacking impact veterans, depending on newcomers and youth.
Tonight is a game where both coaches and players can make enough adjustments to pull out a win. And that win would help pull along the new parts, give confidence in the team concept, and also end a losing streak that has not been about one thing, but also has been — about execution.
Will we see the necessary grit tonight? Can the Red Storm cut down the Hoyas’ corner threes and deal with center Qudus Wahab? Do the Red Storm have what it takes to close out a game late?
Note: Georgetown’s Jalen Harris is taking a leave of absence from the team for family reasons.
