The Johnnies played a good half against Creighton going into the half with a 38-35 lead, but that was as far as the game got.

Winning three games in three days is difficult. Winning four in four days is, therefore, likely more difficult. But St. John’s won game one, so just like everyone else remaining, the Johnnies only have to win three more games. The Red Storm journey continued against Creighton, who St. John’s beat by 20 points less than two weeks ago.

For a majority of the first half, It was a largely a back and forth contest with until its final minutes. LJ Figueroa and Marcellus Earlington led the way in scoring for the Red Storm with 9 points apiece on a combined 6 of 13 from the floor.

Nearing the close of the half, St. John’s went on a 12-0 run to regain the lead. Unrelated, it appears Nebraska was not the only team with members of a football team joining the basketball squad for their conference tournament, as Creighton’s Denzel Mahoney flipped Earlington over his should during a dead ball.

Despite St. John’s halftime lead, they did not acquire it in typical St. John’s fashion. The Johnnies usually have to create turnovers and attempt more shots than their opponents, but today, they did neither. The Red Storm had 9 turnovers to the Bluejays’ 8, and Creighton attempted one more shot than the Johnnies. St. John’s simply both got to the free throw line more often, 8 times to Creighton’s 5, and missed from the stripe only once.

Behind Figueroa’s and Earlington’s scoring, plus the team’s consistency at the free throw line, St. John’s went into the half up 38-35.

Unfortunately, due to health concerns, there was no second half. At halftime, it was announced the Big East Tournament was canceled, including the second half of St. John’s and Creighton.

Whether we get to see St. John’s play again this season remains to be determined.
