Here’s one thing: St. John’s hasn’t defeated Xavier in so long, it feels like a curse. Since the win in 2015, St. John’s has gotten within three once, last season.
The Xavier Musketeers (tonight, 8:30 PM on FS1) have managed to pound the always-skinny Johnnies in the paint over and over again despite the Red Storm’s best efforts. But with the Musketeers coming off of a lackluster game, could be vulnerable. Xavier played one game after their win against St. John’s on January 10th, and, due to COVID protocols, played their next one 20 days later, and the following game 14 days later.
It’s a strange season, and no on on the St. John’s side wants to see this rusty squad from Cincinnati get right in Queens.
Posh Alexander will need to be more of a force in this game than in the previous contest— he was held to two points, two steals and five assists. Wing Colby Jones had his one double-digit scoring performance of the season.
But back when St. John’s fell to Xavier, the season felt like it was sinking.
And that is no longer the case.
