The St. John’s baseball team is currently dealing with a series of positive COVID-19 tests amongst team members. The outbreak canceled Wednesday’s game against Army, which was rescheduled to Tuesday before the outbreak.
The weekend tripleheader against #8 East Carolina was also canceled. Last weekend’s opponent, Fordham, hasn’t stopped baseball activities, going 2-1 the past week after some schedule rearrangements.
As of now, the team expects to resume play next week with 4 games against Hofstra. The Johnnies will host Hofstra on Thursday and Saturday for a game each day and travel for a doubleheader on Saturday. The series begins a day earlier than usual this week to observe Easter on Sunday and marks the final nonconference games for the year.
Award note
SS Jake Lazzaro was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for his contributions last week against Fordham. Lazzaro went 5-for-13 at the plate with 7 walks and hit by pitch to get on base 13 times in the 4-game series.
