Stateside, Jakarr Sampson and Orlando Sanchez are trying hard to catch on to the rosters of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks, respectively. But in Europe and the Far East, other Red Storm players are putting up strong performances for their teams.
United States
Orlando Sanchez still has not played in a preseason game for the Knicks. But Jakarr Sampson may be rounding into some shape with the Sixers. In just under 12 minutes off the bench, Sampson scored two points (on free throws, 2/2), grabbed three defensive rebounds, three assists and added three blocked shots in Philadelphia's 116-110 preseason loss to Minnesota.
Maurice Harkless continues to play solidly, scoring eight points with a rebound and a steal in 23 minutes in a 96-93 preseason victory over the Indiana Pacers.
France
Marc-Antoine Bourgault, now playing for Lille in France's Pro B league, where he has played in both of the team's regular season games. Bourgault logged three minutes in the season opener, a loss to the Antibes Sharks, but shone in 18 minutes in a blowout over Aix Maurienne Savoie Basket.
In the second game, Bourgault scored 17 points (6/10 shooting; 4/6 from beyond the arc) with seven rebounds and two turnovers.
Japan
Paris Horne and Justin Burrell played their first game with Japan's Chiba Jets; they lost to the Hitachi Sunrockers, 75-70. Justin Burrell returns to play with his former coach with the Yokohama B-Corsairs, Reggie Geary.
Burrell scored nine points and had two rebounds in the effort. Having played in Germany, Turkey and Greece, Paris Horne made his debut in Japan with a 16 minute stint, scoring eight points on 2/4 shooting with six rebounds and two assists
Russia
D.J. Kennedy's Russian squad Krasny Oktyabr also played their first game of the season, a 92-85 loss to BC Nizhny Novgorod. Kennedy started and led the team with 22 points on 8/16 shooting, adding seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and five turnovers.
Italy
Justin Brownlee, playing for second-division Italian side Centrale del Latte Brescia, scored 26 points on 9/12 shooting - hitting 5/6 from beyond the arc - in a 82-74 win over Fileni BPA Jesi. Brownlee added three rebounds, two assists, one steal and had three turnovers.
Turkey
Dwight Hardy's season in Turkey has not yet started.
