Montrose Christian 2013 forward Ishmail Wainright has verbally committed to the Baylor Bears, reports Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop on Rivals.

The highly-desired 6'6'' wing was being recruited vigorously by a number of schools, including St. John's. The other two schools that remained in Wainright's final four prior to his decision were Texas and Ohio State.

It had been widely believed that Steve Lavin and the Johnnies had as good of a chance at landing the talented forward as any of the other three programs Wainright has openly praised St. John's as a school and basketball program.

Wainright's style of play would have been a perfect fit for Lavin's liberal, fast-paced offensive system that doesn't constrict players to specific positions on the floor, something he expressed was a reason for his interest in the Red Storm.

Wainright had even scheduled St. John's as the final of his four official visits, something that was believed to have been beneficial for the Johnnies.

He joins former St. John's commit Ricardo Gathers as the second of Lavin's close targets to have chosen Baylor. Scott Drew, whose program is now built on annual deep runs into the NCAA Tournament, is becoming one of the nation's strongest recruiters. Per Kline's report, Wainright's decision was heavily based on Baylor's commitment to faith and religion.
